I was raised in Canlaon City, the home of the lovely and active Kanlaon Volcano. It's actually a shame when people ask me if I have climbed up its summit because I never did. My parents did not allow us to do so. It was too dangerous. Some mountaineers (both foreigners and Filipinos) even died back in the 1990s when the volcano started shooting out stones and smoke and some lava during their climb. So that was why my mother was never positive about me and my sisters going up there.
Things changed when we have grown up, however. After graduating from college, our parents pretty much left us alone to do what we want to. :D So when my siblings and I arranged for a three-day climb to Mt. Kanlaon last April 30 - May 2, 2011, they did not protest at all. Yay!
Since my sister and her friend has left for Canlaon City the day before our scheduled trek, I had to wake up at 3AM to catch a PUV to Toledo City (where I boarded a fast craft off to San Carlos City, which was an hour away from my hometown). For the benefit of those who are interested in heading to my place, they can take inspiration from my itinerary.
3AM - 4AM Prepared for bus travel; rode a taxi to Cebu City Link (P70.00 from Ramos area)
4AM - 5AM Travelled to Toledo City, Cebu - allocate up to two hours for this since the van's pacing depends on traffic and other factors (P100.00)
5AM - 6AM Waited for the Ticketing Office to open; booked ticket
6AM - 7AM Boarded the Montenegro fast craft to San Carlos City, Negros Occidental (P225.00)
7AM - 8AM Waited for bus for Canlaon City, Negros Oriental (I missed the 7AM one merely by seconds)
8AM - 9AM Rode Ceres Liner to Canlaon (P55.00)
9AM to the rest of the day - Met up with group and started the journey.
Cebu City is so peaceful at dawn. The traffic is just sooo light.
Mt. Kanlaon from a distant view. Taken at the Toledo City Port while eating bibingka.
Toledo City Port at dawn.
San Carlos City Bus Terminal
Bored during the trip.
The usual sight you'd see at the highway in Negros.
Home. :D
My attempt at staying chic as a novice mountaineer. LOL
To be continued. . . :p
