Nuggets of Wisdom: The Black Saturday Excursion

If there is one thing I have learned today, it is to make use of what you have and just be happy about it.

I must admit that I am running low on money because of obligations. Nevertheless, I did not let diminishing cash be the reason for me not to enjoy this day with a few friends. Please don't let me see raised eyebrows. I know some of you are thinking "What on earth are you thinking going out and having fun while it's still Lent?" Think whatever you want to; I know what I (and my pals) did today is not as heavy as the crimes committed by a lot of people out there.

Anyway, going back to my point: I just want to say that in general, the lack of resources is not a reason to become a failure. Although we went to the beach with limited funds, we were still able to reach our destination, eat sufficient food, and went home with happy faces. We made use of alternatives in order for us to really achieve what we desired to do today. Instead of riding taxis, we rode the ferry. Instead of going to an expensive resort, we opted for a cheaper yet decent one. When demanded to pay for a cottage that we found really unnecessary, we fought for our right and never stopped until we get access without being forced to pay P700.00 for a shabby gazebo.

So how is this really related to my message? Here it goes:

A lot of families who consider themselves poor usually blame their circumstances to the government. They always feel that they cannot do something about their situation and that it is the president's obligation to feed them and to find jobs for them. But this is not true and it will never be. If they just wait for officials to approach them and offer them a few "luxuries", nothing will really happen to them. They will still be hungry; they will still be sick; they will be stuck in that cycle forever unless they start moving.

If we look at some individuals who used to be poor and yet persevered in order to get out of the loop, we can say that something can definitely be done in order for one to succeed. If he strives every day to look for food for his family, he will always find ways. If he has the will to learn and the determination to excel, he will always get a job. It's really all about believing in oneself and acting instead of sitting, whining, and letting oneself rot inside the home.

I hope you got my point because I don't want to further prove my point. LOL

Anyway, with roughly P200.00 cash on hand, I and my six other comrades were able to spend an afternoon swim at the Hadsan Cove Resort.

Here's the breakdown of our expenses:

P8.00       Jeepney fare: Ramos to Colon
P8.00       Jeepney fare: Colon to Pier 3
P12.00      Ferryboat ride: Pier 3 Cebu to Opon, Lapu-Lapu City
P55.00      Lechon Manok (P120 x 3 pieces = P360/7 people)
P14.00      Puso (P100 for 50 pieces, divided by 7)
P21.00      Utensils (plastic cups and paper plates) and drinks (2 1.5L softdrinks, 1L water)
P15.00      Tricycle ride: Opon Public Market to Hadsan Cove Resort
P40.00      Hadsan Cove Resort Entrance
P16.00      Jeepney fare: Hadsan Cove Resort to Highway Mandaue (in front of San Miguel Plant)
P10.00      CICC (a few meters walk from the jeepney stop) to Colon
P203.00

So if you want to go there and you want to learn about a cost-effective means of doing so, you can take inspiration at what we did.

Check out the photos we had at the beach!

While waiting for other people to show up, Jorj's dreads has been completed!

The city looks lethargic on Holy Week.

Our first jeepney ride.

I took a picture of this because I felt it will look good with vintage effect. I just didn't check what these tools were for.

Waiting for the second jeep that will take us to the port.

Walking under the scorching heat of the sun (without any lunch).

Just keep walking, Jo!

We finally arrived in Opon after around 15 minutes.

We docked near the church and I found this. I believe this was used in a float for a saint.

Moi, at the cove.

It's been the third time since I've been to Hadsan but it's the first time that I got there during high tide.

Our addiction to jump shots. LOL

A few tips for those who are planning to go to Hadsan:

I've said a lot. This is enough talk. Good night.
